I just wrote “The End” on Hammer of the Gods, the fifth Myth Hunter novella.
It was a lot of fun to write. The words flowed on this book a whole lot more than I expected them to. The Myth Hunter has been a really fun series to write, and I’ve really grown attached to all the characters involved in it.
This book sees Elisa traveling to a South American island called Corbaton. A rumor is that something fell out of the sky, with a witness describing it as a hammer. Freak storms around the island as well lead Elisa to suspect that this object is Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor.
Elisa and her partner, Asami, journey to Corbaton. Also along for the ride is Jason Shroud of the Freemasons. But in pursuit are the Montenegro Sisters, a pair of myth hunters who have some bad blood with Elisa.
I’ve had the idea of this book in my head for a very long time, so it was great to finally get the chance to write it. And the Montenegro Sisters were characters I initially thought up for an aborted Myth Hunter short story, and I’m happy to have the opportunity to finally use them in a story. They’re a lot of fun to write.
Now that Hammer of the Gods is complete, the next project I’m planning to work on is Dante, which will be the fifth and final book in the Infernum series.
As far as The Myth Hunter goes, I think I’ll do at least one book. Honestly, I would like to do a whole lot more. But the series hasn’t proven to be very successful. The most successful book in the series at the time of writing is The Lost Continent, the first book in the series. And the rank of that book on Amazon is below 400,000. Not one of the Myth Hunter books has cracked the top 100 in any category.
That’s pretty disappointing for me. I sell maybe a few copies of the series a month. And as I’m trying to get to a place where I can be a working writer, that means a few copies a month just is not going to cut it.
So if you love Elisa Hill and want to see her adventures continue, then I have a favor to ask of you: show your support. Promote the books on social media. Write reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. Share your favorite quotes on twitter. Recommend the books to your family and friends, or gift them copies.
Whatever you can do to help, please try. Because as much as I love Elisa and her supporting cast, I can’t justify continue writing books that don’t sell. I’m already starting to explore options for more commercial endeavors once I’ve finished Infernum. And if the numbers on The Myth Hunter and Vanguard don’t start to rise, I may also have to replace those series with more commercial ones.
I picked up a print copy of Curse of the Necronomicon and am looking forward to giving it a read.I quite enjoyed Dragon Kings of the Orient.
I love Elisa Hill and I would love to read more of her stories. I’ll see what I can do to spread the word.
Hold on!
